The first trailer of the Disney Moon Night series was dropped on Monday night and the show looks and feels great, just like everything else from Marvel Studios. Among the trailer's positive reactions, social media star Oscar Isaac's British accent has been limited.
Apparently depicting a ghostly Stephen Grant who can't tell the difference between "waking life and dreams", Isaac's London-type accent that is probably southeast, perhaps anywhere, is confusing enough that he has become a talking point on Twitter. There is nothing more to deny the premium wig from Ethan Hawke, however, as both actors embrace the chaos.
Twitter wags write that Isaac Ocean is trying to wear the famous Don Cheadle accent in the franchise and Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, which has long been considered a gold standard in poor British accents.
Summarizing some of the reactions, one user wrote on Twitter, "Oscar Isaac's utterance in the #moonnight trailer literally means' Elo Guvana Wat or Ya Duine ?!"
Isaac plays Mark Specter in the Disney series based on modern comics, depicting the character's struggle with isolated identity disorder (a possible explanation for the British accent where the character changes between characters). Moon Night will be held against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt.
The actor had previously said of the series, "We're creating something completely different, and it doesn't follow the same logic ... that many superhero movies do."
Hook plays the villain, modeled after David Cyrus, the leader of David's Pharaonic community who died in the 1993 Waco blockade.
Umbrella Academy's Jeremy Slater is the lead author, along with director Mohamed Diab, behind the six-episode series Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead.
