Exclusive: 98-year-old investment legend Charlie Munger is 'terrified' of vaccinations in the United States |
Asked about the Covid-19 pandemic, Berkshire Hathaway's vice president said: "I am terrified of a vaccination by a large section of the nation." Speaking for myself, I can't wait to get vaccinated. And I think the risk of being vaccinated is much lower than the risk of not being vaccinated."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the vaccine has a 0.002% chance of causing death, with an estimated 5 anaphylactic shocks per million vaccines in the United States. By comparison, unvaccinated people are at least 14 times more likely to die from COVID than people who were fully vaccinated and 68 times more likely to die from the virus than those who received booster doses, according to the CDC.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), About 64.5% of the US population is fully vaccinated, which means that about 35.5% of the population is not fully vaccinated.
"It's really stupid not to welcome a vaccine," Munger, 98, said. Perhaps 30% of people in our country think vaccination is bad and they follow like Hobgoblin. With so much ignorance remaining, this is not a good thing.”
"When I was in World War II... they didn't ask me"
To increase vaccination rates, some parts of the country and companies have implemented vaccination orders. President Biden has sought similar action for all organizations, including more than 100 employees, but the Supreme Court has ruled that Biden exceeded his authority.
“If I were to run the world, of course it would be mandatory,” Munger said. "When I was in World War II, they didn't ask me if I wanted a vaccine. They just vaccinated me. They didn't hurt me or anyone else in the world. We all gave what the government asked us to give. It doesn't matter. I don't like portions becoming large. The country is crazy. And I would argue that anti-wax people are a bit crazy."
